SAM ROBERTSON

Sam Robertson is one of Australia's most successful alpine racers and has spent more than 40 winters on snow and as athlete, instructor and mountain guide. He is the only skier ever to have achieved a perfect score for free-skiing in a APSI exam.

With the mountains as his backyard - and being the son of an APSI examiner and demo team member - Sam pushed his skiing to the limit from a young age, extending his knowledge of the sport in all aspects: technique, equipment and mentality. He applied his pursuit of excellence to alpine racing, in which he qualified for his first World Championships in Schladming, Austria, at the age of 19.

Next, Sam began to follow in his father’s footsteps by training for his level 1 APSI, where Tom Gellie was his examiner. By the following year Sam passed his level 3 APSI with the first ever perfect score in free-skiing.

Soon after, Sam began competition training again and qualified for another World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek where he achieved a 36th place in the Super-G at only 21 years old. He credits a portion of this success to working with Tom off snow in a physio and body alignment capacity.

Since then, Sam has been based in Verbier in the winter; focusing on big mountain free riding, alpinism, and film making, and in Stockholm where he studied Digital Media Creative at Hyper Island.
Sam has been selected and trusted as an instructor, guide and/or athlete in some of the most remote mountains in the world, including: The Lofoten Islands, Kamchatka, Valdez, Hokkaido and The Caucasus. Yet he still loves ripping GS turns down the slopes of Thredbo.
